You know who they are. The members who somehow manage to find their way to the coveted seats along the center aisle of the House chamber. Year. After. Year.
(Joshua Roberts - Bloomberg) They’re the aisle hogs. And they’re out in full force tonight, hours before President Obama delivers his third State of the Union address.
Among the familiar faces that we’ve seen plant themselves in seats along the aisle today: Reps. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Tex.), Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.), Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), Al Green (D-Tex.) and Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio).
Members are technically barred from placing anything on a House seat in an effort to “reserve” it in their absence. Even so, earlier Tuesday, about a dozen members looking to call dibs on seats near the aisle left pocketbooks, briefcases, papers and all other kinds of objects to hold their spots.
One member – Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Fla.) – even left a blue sequined hat on her chair in order to secure a spot near the front of the Republican side.
As she placed her hat on the seat, Wilson donned another hat — this one gold-and-black — as she exited the House chamber.
