The Queen of Soul has called off her engagement to longtime friend William “Willie” Wilkerson.
“Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly,” she said in a statement on Facebook. “There will be no wedding at this time.”
It’s unclear whether Franklin and Wilkerson have ended their romantic relationship, based on the note. Perhaps anticipating that question, the statement continued, “We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.”
Franklin announced her engagement shortly after the new year began. It would have been the diva’s third marriage.
