Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lawrence on cover of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue

(Mario TestinoVanity Fair) Rooney Mara, Jennifer Lawrence and nine other up-and-coming actresses grace the cover of Vanity Fair’s annual Hollywood issue.

The Oscar-nominated “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” star and the “Hunger Games” actress are joined by Mia Wasikowska, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain, Elizabeth Olsen, Adepero Oduye, Shailene Woodley, Paula Patton, Felicity Jones, Lily Collins and Brit Marling. The women are styled in slinky, shiny dresses meant to evoke “a 20s and 30s boudoir feel” on the multi-panel cover, shot for the first time by Mario Testino.

The full cover image can be seen here.

As it has in years past, the Vanity Fair cover has been criticized, most notably by feminist Web site Jezebel, for not including actresses of color on the first panel. Oduye, who stars in the Oscar-nominated film “Pariah,” and Patton are in the second and third panels, respectively. The 2010 cover, which featured only white women, was harshly received.

Chicology writer Lauren Caruso noted how thin the featured actresses are and questioned whether Octavia Spencer, who will likely win an Oscar for her role in “The Help,” was left out because of her weight.

What do you think of the cover? Is it a good representation of up-and-coming women in Hollywood? If not, which actresses are left out? Sound off in the comments.

Jennifer Lopez divorce talk goes better on ‘Letterman’ than ‘Today’ (Video)

“Matt, I want to kill you right now.”

These are the words Jennifer Lopez said to Matt Lauer on the “Today” show Monday morning, after he began quoting a Vanity Fair article where she discussed the reason behind her split from husband Marc Anthony.

“I didn’t steal your diary, this is from an interview,” Lauer said, while Lopez smiled nervously. “Everything I wanted to say about the divorce I said in that article,” she replied.

About a month after their split was announced, the singer told Vanity Fair, “Sometimes we don’t realize that we are compromising ourselves [in relationships]. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way.”

Up to that point in the interview, Lopez had happily talked about her working relations with her estranged husband on their show, “Q’Viva: The Chosen.”

“Marc and I were friends before we got married,” Lopez told Lauer. “It is a passion project for us. Even though it has its difficult moments, it still a great thing that we’re doing.”

David Letterman did slightly better at getting Lopez to discuss why her marriage ended later that day on the “Late Show.”

On working with her soon-to-be ex (the divorce isn’t final yet), Lopez said, “It’s fun ... but it has its moments. The same things that we kind of [makes hand gestures that seem to indicate conflict] didn’t work sometimes come up.”

When Letterman pressed her to explain what kind of things she was referring to, Lopez said “communication” was one of them. “You’re talking, and you don’t agree on something. And then you’re like, ‘Oh, be quiet,’” Lopez added while laughing.

The lesson for any future Jennifer Lopez interviewer: Don’t quote J. Lo to J. Lo.

David Furnish, the husband of Elton John, wants to take back what he said about Madonna’s Golden Globe win for best song, which he said “truly shows how these awards have nothing to do with merit.”

He wrote on Facebook: “Wow! What a tempest in a teapot. My comments regarding The Golden Globes have been blown way out of proportion. My passion for our film ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ and belief in Elton's song really got my emotional juices going. But I must say for the record that I do believe Madonna is a great artist, and that Elton and I wish her all the best for next week's premiere of the film ‘W.E.’” (E!)
