Uggie, ‘The Artist’ dog, nominated for two Golden Collar Awards

Uggie, the dog, from the film "The Artist.” (Matt Sayles - AP) Hallelujah: The world may actually get to see Uggie, the scene-stealing Jack Russell Terrier from “The Artist,” make an acceptance speech this awards show season.

Dog News Daily has announced the nominations for its first ever Golden Collar Awards, given for the best performances by pooches of the small and silver screen.

Uggie was nominated in the best dog in a theatrical film category for his roles in “The Artist” and “Water for Elephants.” He helped announce the nominations with his “Artist” co-star Penelope Ann Miller. (And by helped, I mean he barked adorably on cue.)

He will compete against Cosmo (Arthur in “Beginners”), Denver (Skeletor in “50/50”) and Hummer (Dolce in “Young Adult.”)

The Golden Collar Awards will be given out Feb.13 in Los Angeles.

While Uggie is talented enough to earn two Golden Collar nods, the pup (who is 8, 9 or 10-years-old, depending on which outlet you’re reading) is not eligible to compete with human actors for an Oscar. Some of his fans want to change this.

Moveline has created an unofficial Oscar campaign for the terrier, “Consider Uggie,” which has been liked by over 7,000 people on Facebook.

Sure, “Artist” director Michel Hazanavicius told The Post’s John DeFore, “I’m not sure [Uggie’s] so expressive ... He’s very cute, [but] he doesn’t incline his head, he has really a stone face; he’s not an actor. He’s just going from Point A to Point B.” But doesn’t being “cute” count for anything?
