Maurice Sendak, children’s literature’s favorite curmudgeon, looked awfully annoyed on the Colbert Report on Tuesday night.
Sendak’s three grouchiest quotes:
• “Newt Gingrich is an idiot of great renown.”
• On children: “I like them as few and far between as I like adults.”
• On Colbert’s idea for a sequel to “Where the Wild Things Are:” “It is so bad that it not only will sell, but it will make pots and pots of money for you.”
Someone’s having a no-good, very bad day.
