Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) announced Wednesday morning that she will run for her fourth term in 2012.

“I’m looking forward to coming back and bringing a strong, powerful voice to Washington, D.C.,” Bachmann told the Associated Press.

The former presidential candidate’s future plans had been in some doubt. Redistricting could make her 6th district seat more competitive, and she spent much of the year in Iowa proclaiming herself “an Iowa girl” — not so helpful for winning an election in Minnesota.

Other Republicans interested in the seat were waiting on Bachmann’s decision; she’s not likely to face a competitive primary.

While her presidential campaign was a flop, Bachmann is still a national star and a formidable fundraiser, and Democrats will have a tough time taking her down in her current district.

We won’t know what political landscape she’ll face until late February, when a panel of judges releases its maps. Under the plan proposed by Democrats, Bachmann would be put in the 4th district and face Rep. Betty McCollum (D).
